Most roofs don't fail all at once. A single slipped slate, a cracked mortar fillet or a lifted piece of lead flashing lets water in, and by the time it shows up as a damp patch on the ceiling it has usually been getting in for months. We repair roofs across Mansfield and the wider Nottinghamshire area — and we start by finding out what is actually causing the leak rather than sealing over the symptom.
What we repair
Our repair work covers the whole roof, not just the covering. Slipped, cracked and missing tiles or slates are replaced to match the existing roof as closely as we can source. Ridge and hip tiles that have worked loose are stripped and re-bedded, or dry-fixed so they do not need re-pointing again in five years. Lead flashing around chimneys, abutments and dormers is re-dressed or renewed where the old lead has split or lifted. Valleys, verges, mortar fillets and cracked cement work are all common sources of water ingress and all things we put right regularly.
Finding the actual leak
Water rarely enters a roof directly above the stain on the ceiling. It travels along battens, rafters and felt before it drops. We inspect the roof covering from outside and, wherever access allows, the underside from inside the loft — daylight through the felt, water staining on timbers and perished underlay all tell you far more than looking at the tiles alone. That inspection is free, and you get a written quote with the cause explained in plain English before anything is booked in.
Repair or replace?
We will tell you honestly which one you need. If a roof has a handful of failures on a covering that is otherwise sound, repairing it is the sensible option and we will say so. If the underlay has perished throughout, nail fatigue is dropping slates faster than they can be replaced, or you are calling a roofer out every winter, patching it is money down the drain and a full re-roof will cost you less over ten years. We would rather lose a repair job than sell you a repair that fails.

We quote a fixed price in writing after looking at the job, because roofs vary far more than price lists admit.
